SkillBridge Fellow: Proposal & Capture
Location: Kansas City Area / Remote (Hybrid), USA
Employment Type: Internship
IMPORTANT: This position is exclusively open to transitioning active-duty U.S. Military Service Members eligible for the Department of Defense (DoD) SkillBridge program. Applicants must obtain command approval prior to the start of the fellowship.
Role Mission
SOFTwarfare is seeking a Capture Manager SkillBridge Fellow to bridge the gap between military operational experience and corporate growth strategy. In the defense industry, "Capture" is the art of positioning a company to win. This role is not just about writing; it is about strategic planning, competitive intelligence, and mission alignment.
As a Fellow, you will work directly with executive leadership to support strategic pursuits across defense, cyber, and national security domains. You will translate your understanding of "the mission" into compelling proposals that help the government solve complex cybersecurity and identity challenges.
The Path to Full-Time Employment (FTE)
The primary goal of this SkillBridge Fellowship is to evaluate the Fellow for a full-time offer as a Capture Manager or Business Development Lead upon successful completion of the program and military separation. Success is defined by your ability to integrate into the growth team, master the business acquisition lifecycle, and contribute to the submission of high-quality proposals.
What You Will Do (Responsibilities)
- Strategic Capture: Apply military planning methodologies (MDMP/JOPP) to assist in developing "Win Themes" and pursuit plans that align SOFTwarfare’s cybersecurity and cloud solutions with specific mission gaps.
- Intelligence & Research: Conduct "Area of Operations" research on customers, competitors, and the current market landscape to inform our pursuit strategy.
- Requirements Analysis: Analyze RFIs, RFPs, and SOOs (Statement of Objectives) to understand customer timelines, pain points, and acquisition strategies (FAR, OTA, SBIR, IDIQ).
- Technical Translation: Collaborate with engineers to translate "technobabble" into clear, mission-focused messaging that a government Program Manager or Commanding Officer would value.
- Proposal Operations: Contribute to the "Operations Order" of a proposal—helping manage outlines, compliance matrices, and content reviews (Red/Gold Team reviews).
- Pipeline Management: Utilize CRM tools to track the health of the business pipeline, ensuring all "reconnaissance" on new opportunities is documented and actionable.
Preferred Experience & Skills
- Active-duty military member within 180 days of separation eligible for participation in the SkillBridge program.
- Interest or experience in business development, capture management, proposal development, or government contracting
- Strong experience in military planning, intelligence, or operations.
- Exceptional communication skills; ability to brief senior leadership clearly and persuasively.
- A "curious operator" mindset with an interest in cybersecurity, cloud, and identity management.
- U.S. Citizenship (required for government contracting).
